Holland Middle School celebrated its 30 year anniversary on April 9th and 10th. Former students and staff poured onto the Holland campus to reminisce on their most fond memories ranging from their favorite teachers to how the school colors were decided and why the cougar was chosen as the mascot. Visitors were pleased to see their middle school classmates, students, teachers, librarians, assistant principals, and principals.

On April 9th, a group of students from Holland participated in the No Limit Festival, a learning experience hosted by Rice University’s Student Engineers Educating Kids (SEEK) organization. SEEK strives to motivate students to pursue higher education in science and engineering.

KPRC Channel 2 has chosen Holland 7th grade student Chelsea Herron as the Student of the Week! She was nominated because she is always cordial and courteous to her classmates, teachers, and visitors. She is in the AVID program, enrolled in Pre-AP courses, and has already taken the SAT.

Students interested in applying for the Holland Vanguard Magnet Program still have time to submit their application to the magnet office. Applications must be filled out completely with all supporting documents. Individuals who wish to tour the campus are welcome to visit between the hours of 8:30 – 10:30 AM. Three students from Holland were selected to participate in GeoFORCE , the largest college prep program in the nation for earth sciences. Karen Banda and Priscilla Cavazos were chosen for the Summer Academy. Their learning adventures will take them to UT-Austin, Barton Springs, and McKinney Falls, Texas. Then they will travel to Key Largo, Florida to explore the Pennekamp Coral Reef, Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park, Lover’s Key State Park, Canaveral Sea Shores, and the Everglades.

Holland magnet and AVID students had an opportunity to learn about banking with representatives from Prosperity Bank. They took notes, asked questions, and participated in check book activities for a chance to win prizes. The representatives also talked to the students about various careers in banking. A variety of other guest speakers will present to the students before the end of the school year.
