Holland magnet and AVID students had an opportunity to learn about banking with representatives from Prosperity Bank. They took notes, asked questions, and participated in check book activities for a chance to win prizes. The representatives also talked to the students about various careers in banking. A variety of other guest speakers will present to the students before the end of the school year.

On February 9th, Holland welcomed its feeder schools' fifth and sixth grade students to a day of fun, food, friends, and family! Visitors received a tour of their future middle school, they met students from a variety of clubs and programs, and they participated in relays. Holland students were excited to explain what they experienced during their transition to middle school.

The Holland Cougar Bots participated in the FIRST Lego League South Texas Championships held in Pearland HS on February 27. In the morning session, the Cougar Bots finished 6th out of 20 in their division, qualifying them for the division eliminations. The Cougar Bots were matched with #3 Ro-Beaumonts in the first round, where the Cougar Bots dominated at 210-105.

The 2010 History Fair is proving to be a wonderful experience for the students of Holland Middle School. Students worked tirelessly as they prepared projects that focused on the theme "Innovation in History: Impact and Change." A group of seventh grade students from Holland received 1st place in the East Region competition.

The Holland family would like to congratulate the 2010 Spelling Bee winner Alexandria Hurlburt! The competition was tough but she managed to pull through it all and will move on to the next round of competition in February. Alexandria is in the 8th grade and in her spare time she enjoys dancing, singing, and spending time with her friends.

This past December a number of students from Holland received free bicycles for setting goals and sticking with them. There were so many smiles on the faces of students, parents, and staff members as the students picked out their very own bike! HISD’s Strategic Partners and Elves and More sponsored the “Wheels Deals” program. “The Wheels Deal program is a wonderful incentive for our students to make a commitment to improve in some area of their life.
