UIL Academic Competition

On Saturday, December 12th, Holland students competed in the 2nd HISD District Academic Tournament.  The sixth grade students did exceptionally well bringing home top honors in Ready Writing.  Errol Williams received a 3rd place trophy, Brenda Gonzalez received 2nd place, and Jai”Lon Tutt received 1st place!    Medals were also given to top performing students.

Winter Scholar Expo

On December 10th Holland held the Winter Scholar Expo.  Guests were treated to a free spaghetti dinner and parents were able to look at quality products from all of the teachers' classes.  Many vendors were in attendance to share valuable information with students and their families.  The Holland Band and Drama students had terrific performances as did the ROTC and magnet students from Furr HS. U.I.L. One Act Play Competition
On Friday, November 6th Holland competed in the U.I.L. One Act Play competition.   Staff members joined parents and students in turning out to watch the entire cast represent Holland well!

Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP)
Students from the seventh grade class at Holland have been selected to participate in Duke TIP because of their academic gifts.  By participating in the program they will learn more about their academic strengths and weaknesses when they take the SAT, a college entrance exam.

Odyssey of the Mind
Students at Holland are thrilled about participating in the Odyssey of the Mind tournament which will be held at Paul Revere MS on February 27, 2010.  Teams of five to seven students will work collaboratively to find a solution to one of five long term problems.  The presentation must be in the form of a play, less than 8 minutes long, and should also demonstrate the teams' creative ability.  THE CATCH - NO OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE!  Input on the solution must only come from team members.

Holland Book Fair
books.jpgA big “Thank you” goes to the students and staff who came by the library to support the book fair during the week of November 9th!  It was a great success. 
Many students visited the book fair several times.  Stay tuned to the morning announcements and school newsletters for more information about upcoming events at the Holland Library.
